About
Free, open-source media player with built-in audio visualisations including spectrum, scope, Goom and projectM.
VLC is a widely used free media player from the VideoLAN project. While playing audio, its Audio > Visualizations menu offers several built-in visualisations: Spectrometer, Scope, Spectrum, VU Meter, Goom, 3D Spectrum and projectM.
Goom and projectM provide the more elaborate psychedelic visuals, with projectM playing MilkDrop-style presets. The simpler modes are useful for a quick look at a file's spectrum or levels. VLC is open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux; the exact visualisations available can vary by platform and build.
